300 Frogs: A Visual Reference to Frogs and Toads from Around the World ReviewDespite its somewhat odd title, this book is surprisingly 'complete' in that it covers virtually all the families of frogs known to science (excluding fossil forms). There is an impressive amount of interesting information here, and I would even recommend it to professional zoologists/herpetologists. The image quality is also very good overall. Amphibians and Reptiles of the Carolinas and Virginia, 2nd Ed ReviewA very good introductory book, but it should include all subbspecies. There is also room in the coverage of the anole to discuss the "roach" on the back of the neck of breeding males. There needs to be a photo of this, because if you encounter one, you might think it is a different species, as I did this summer (thank goodness for the internet!). One small criticism is the description of the box turtle as having a brown carapace. This should read "brown to jet black". There is definitely a good percentage of Caroilna's box turtles that have BLACK shells !Amphibians and Reptiles of the Carolinas and Virginia, 2nd Ed Overview

A Field Guide to Western Reptiles and Amphibians (Peterson Field Guide) ReviewStebbins does it again. As a biologist who works throughout southern California I find this book indispensable. It is a vast improvement to the last edition (which was very good to begin with) with lots of color photos, many more color plates and the range maps are great too, again with color. It has revised the taxonomy of many species and included a many of the lastest subspecies designations. This book is easy to use from the novice to the advanced and should be in any nature enthusiasts library.A Field Guide to Western Reptiles and Amphibians (Peterson Field Guide) Overview
