They supply details about an amazing array of activities on the Big Island: diving, hiking, camping, golfing, kayaking, whale-watching and many more.
For tourists whose idea of adventure is lounging by the pool there is useful information, too; sooner or later, you have to eat. The authors have evaluated dozens (maybe hundreds) of restaurants and shops all around the island and give advice on places not to miss, as well as a few to avoid.
Written in an informal yet informative style, Adventure Guide: Hawaii the Big Island also has abundant maps and photos. Anyone who is planning a trip to Hawaii would benefit from this book. Exalted Sits the Chief ReviewMr. Cordy does an excellent job of providing an overview of the history of the island of Hawaii. He does this will a rich blend of written and oral historical, and archaeological data. I especially enjoyed the way that the author compared and contrasted various reported historical accounts to leave the reader with the most likely version of what actually happened. The background information on climatic and agricultural characteristics of the island provided much insight into the historical information.
I only wish I had read the book prior to visiting Hawaii, rather than once I returned, as it provides historical significance to the famous as well as not-so-well-known places on the Big Island.
Reading this book made me want to find and enroll in the next archaeology dig on the Big Island.Exalted Sits the Chief Overview

Frommer's Maui Day by Day (Frommer's Day by Day - Pocket) ReviewThis was a great lil guide to throw in your bag. The foldout map was AWESOME and worth the purchase. We used this item daily on our 2 week honeymoon. This book and the 50 Thrifty Maui Restaurants were such a great resource; one to get you around, the other to get you well fed. I highly recommend both since everytime we used them we had a better time for it :)

Hawaii The Big Island Trailblazer: Where to hike, snorkel, surf, bike, drive ReviewWe recently spent ten extraordinary days on Hawaii. It was our first visit and had we not read this guide cover to cover before arriving we would have wasted alot of time and money taking packaged tours $$$. The book is literally overflowing with activities and has a finetuned list of recommended hotels, b&b's and restuarants. Itinerary planning was easy knowing how far and long the trails were and previewing the locations using the photos in the book was an enormous advantage. The hikes are grouped with the snorkeling beaches and so we didn't end up doing alot of extra driving. Taking advantage of the insider tips and advice it became our loyal travelling companion. Our timing couldn't have been better with the volcano spewing rivers of lava.
