Frommer's Chicago 2001 ReviewI went on a 4 day trip to Chicago and found the information in the book to be fairly reliable and covered most areas of interest. The strong points were reviews of hotels (I booked before reading this guide) and it correctly advised that the Allegro is a good hotel. Also good were overviews of the main neighbourhoods near the loop. Things I wanted to know while I was there and couldn't find in the guide were details of shops that sold electronic goods and locations of internet cafes. The book had some strange errors including a colour picture page labelled as Wrigley park which in fact is Comiskey Park.Frommer's Chicago 2001 Overview

Frommer's New England (Frommer's Complete Guides) ReviewI have never bought a Frommer's Guide Book before, and now after I purchased this one, I am a loyal customer! I found it extremely insightful as to the most quaint New England towns to visit, which are the best routes to get there, practical information on the restaurants in town as well as their price ranges for any type of budgets - as well as advice on the many different bed and breakfasts that are available. This book caters to all travel styles, preferences and budgets. I planned most of my vacation with this book because it had phone numbers, prices, excellent directions... I could probably go on and on. Definitely a must for anyone who is traveling and not familiar with the area. It's like talking to someone who has lived in New England their whole life and is on hand to give you all the practical information you need to have a successful and fun/relaxing vacation. As if the book weren't great enough - they give you a wonderful full-sized pullout map that has all the towns marked on it which are mentioned in the book.Frommer's New England (Frommer's Complete Guides) Overview

Since I like to have my time well spent on trips,I usually do considerate research before going backpacking and I was really excited before going on this one. The problem is- there are very few guidebooks that are dedicated to backpackers and trekking. I've seen the "other" famous guidebooks on Iceland, but they all seem to be all about hotels and restaurants!
This guidebook, although definitely not dedicated only to backpackers, has the perfect combination and was great for planning. I found plenty of information on trekking opportunities including doing it on your own, operators, shuttle services, access ways and lots of "pearls" missed by other rushing tourists. I found their recommendations to be very close to the average backpacker's taste.
Of course, like all guidebooks, it had hotel/hostel info for different levels of budget and also popular attractions.
I found the list of attractions and best towns to stay to be very good.
I saw in another review that someone was upset about the fact that the book has no pictures and he asked how he was supposed to decide where to go with no pictures?. Come on! just Google the name of whatever sounds nice or interesting and you'll see better photos than any guidebook has. Another advantage, part of it due to the fact there are no photos- the book is really light-weight (around 300g or less I think)- all other guidebooks are around 0.5kg or more!, again, just what a backpacker needs!
Spending the last few days in Reykjavik, I found the info on dinning, shopping and museums very helpful and precise.
To sum it all- I would like to mention that I was traveling and trekking around Iceland for a full month, only by hitch-hiking (yes, Iceland is probably the best place in the world for a solo hitch-hiker), and I found everything I needed in that book.
What I would add: More maps, especially of parks and trails. And well, It wouldn't hurt to add a FEW pages with photos, I guess most people would like that.

This is indeed, user friendly, accurate and provides the 'off the beaten path' type of things to do that one might easily miss. I would highly recommend this book over others. Frommer's Chicago 2007 (Frommer's Complete Guides) ReviewFrommer's Chicago 2007 was useful in our recent trip. The tear-out map is excellent. We already had hotel reservations so didn't need the book for finding a place to stay, but the book was very valuable in finding eating establishments, and knowing in advance what price to expect. We recommend the Russian Tea Time, Heaven on Seven, and Giordano's. For a big night out, try Arun's - probably the best Thai food you'll ever have, and expect to pay $100 -$150 per person. Grab a hot dog at Portillo's, or let the vintage clothing-clad waiters put you down (for good clean fun) at Ed Debevic's. Come to think of it, although the book is good, our vacation was perfect - just try our eating choices, visit the Field Museum and the Art Institute, take the el out to Oak Park to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright home and other houses he designed, and spend some time playing on the Navy Pier.
