Gullah Culture in America ReviewMy parents lived in Charleston, SC for a long time, so I?d always heard
the word, Gullah, but never really knew too much about Gullahs. I bought
?Gullah Culture in America? not knowing what it would be like.I was
somewhat afraid it would read like a dull, history book, but it?s exactly
the opposite. It is fascinating and very lively. I?ve loved learning about
the African connection and the history. I?ve had Frogmore stew before, but
never knew where the name came from. I particularly liked the chapter on
healing and medicine. Fascinating.
A bonus for me was the bibliography. It lists tons of resources: books,
films, and even Gullah websites, so it?s easy to find more information
for the areas I?m particularly interested in.
If you have ANY interest in Gullahs, buy this book.

The Nature of North Carolina's Southern Coast: Barrier Islands, Coastal Waters, and Wetlands ReviewI read this book before moving to coastal NC this year and refer to it often as I live among 80-foot maritime pines near Bald Head Island. All of it is fascinating, but the figure explaining how the barrier islands form is worth the cost alone. The ibis, once nesting abundantly on Boundary Island, have suddenly and sadly disappeared. I hope a new edition will explain how best to protect what is still here and provide more focus on salt marsh habitat.The Nature of North Carolina's Southern Coast: Barrier Islands, Coastal Waters, and Wetlands Overview
