For To ReviewBeware when entering this world that is antithetical to Mark Twain's lighthearted insight and whimsical wit; however, it is as brilliant and even useful if not exactly aphorism that you can repeat everywhere and to just anyone. It blends a nihilistic interior world view with Essene gentleness and a Buddhist-like view of nature, as do all of four books by Fox in this latest string. Fox enters the twentieth-first century lending it a tone that is like comic book noir sci-fi films, the drawn panels of extreme character closeups with bubbles of horror-texts above. The character drawn is not physically heroic, more like Bukowski with a doctorate in literature, as an expert on Charles Olson and Pound, scratching away on a notepad in his university office to purge ideas and observations that would shock college students so have no place at the class lecture podium. A few times, Fox looks back in this book at what most people think poems are and should do when reminiscing about a bygone event in a touching relationship--strangely off in the midst of this powerfully accurate intellectual voice. These appear to be stabilizing influences to avoid the insanity born of philosophical acuteness. A must have book along the other three in the series. Fox is refreshingly naked and clear compared to the popular safe literalness (mediocrity?) of MFA program versification. You can't use "raw" to describe his poems because he is too sophisticated, but many would like to call these kinds of poems "raw" because they are so humanly powerful and honest.For To Overview
