Portrait of a Ghost ReviewLaura Leffers' romantic suspense novel is a beautifully written narrative about a heroine's inner journey to understand herself and affirm her talent. An artist (she calls herself an artist who paints portraits), she narrates her story with an painter's eye for color and detail, beginning with the two-tiered merry-go-round in San Francisco that provides the introduction to her portrait of the child she depicts. From there the story moves to Indiana limestone country with a flawless rendition of a quarry and a fabricating mill as the suspense about the family members mounts, and the finale is played out against the native rocks and fauna of southern Indiana.
Leffer's finely tuned ear picks up southern Indiana dialect very well, and she moves the narrative in a page turning cadence that never stops until the end. Well-ploted with many historical references to artists in all media and crafted with nuanced characters, this is a novel for readers to savor.Portrait of a Ghost Overview
