Awakening the Eagle: A Guide to the Medicine Wheel ReviewI was eager to have this book because I resonate with the culture and beliefs of the American Indian. I was not disappointed, for I was completely enthralled with the stories, the illustrations, and all the teachings.
My expectation was that I'd read a little, go on about my business, and return at a later time. The author drew me in and I could NOT lay the book aside until I finished it completely!
Using stories to underscore his points, Ralph P. Brown paints a word picture of HOW to live using the Medicine Wheel. He explains every direction, every ring within this sacred symbol with clarity and simplicity. Because there is so much information-more than I can retain-this little volume will have a prominent place on my shelf of reference books. Whenever advice or counsel is called for, it will be found within these pages.
The analogy drawn for "Awakening the Eagle" is that this book is a TOOL KIT for living. There are no "musts" or "shoulds"; only suggestions. The reader is offered both mirror and window for insight and reflection on one's own life.
Perhaps the most refreshing idea contained in all the book is that the author lays his concepts in a medicine bundle at our feet.
